But obviously I was shocked that he would remember who I was." "I was kind of surprised that he even remembered who I was," Hennessy said. Hennessy said he has been told on a couple of occasions in the past that Downie was a fan and had asked how he was doing. Bidini's Toronto-based band Rheostatics joined the Hip for three national tours in the 1990s and he frequently laced up the skates with Downie for shinny and recreational hockey games. "But walking through the rink, would see him and stare him down and he would see me and stare me down." Downie always loved hockeyĭownie maintained his love for the game into adulthood. Did he and I ever sit down at a table and have a conversation? No we didn't. "But he probably made a lot of saves on me too. I wasn't scrappy, I didn't fight, but I know I scored a lot of goals on him," Hennessy said from his hometown of Hillier, Ont. He would face off against Hennessy's team at least four or five times a season. A medical issue cut short his hockey career just as it was taking off.Īs a youngster, Downie played the goaltender position in nearby Amherstview, just outside of Kingston. In 1982, the Royals drafted Hennessy - then a six-foot 177-pound forward - from the Picton Midgets. "I guess he must have liked how I played, and I liked how he played." "I hated him, he hated me, but really we liked each other, you know what I mean?" Hennessy said. "I guess he had the moves." Who is Laverne Hennessy?Ī longtime opponent from Downie's youth hockey days in eastern Ontario, Hennessy played four games for the OHL's Cornwall Royals in 1982-83. "I remember him telling me that he watched as a kid," Bidnini recalled earlier this week following Downie's death Tuesday night. When the topic of favourite hockey players came up several years ago, names like Dave Keon and Wendel Clark were mentioned before Downie made his head-scratching choice of Hennessy. Music, pop culture, and of course, hockey - a popular subject in many Hip tunes - were all part of Bidini's wide-ranging conversations with Downie. From the songs he wrote, to the games he attended, hockey was in Downie's DNA.īut instead of a household name, the Tragically Hip singer's rather obscure choice, according to fellow musician and friend Dave Bidini, was Laverne Hennessy. Thank you everyone for all the respect, admiration and love you have given Gord throughout the years - those tender offerings touched his heart and he takes them with him now as he walks among the stars.Duration 1:57 While Gord Downie will always be remembered as a musician, he also holds a special place in the hockey world. Thank you for all the help and support over the past two years. We would like to thank all the kind folks at KGH and Sunnybrook, Gord's bandmates, management team, friends and fans. No one worked harder on every part of their life than Gord. At home, he worked just as tirelessly at being a good father, son, brother, husband and friend. As a musician, he lived "the life" for over 30 years, lucky to do most of it with his high school buddies. Gord knew this day was coming - his response was to spend this precious time as he always had - making music, making memories and expressing deep gratitude to his family and friends for a life well lived, often sealing it with a kiss. Last night Gord quietly passed away with his beloved children and family close by. In August of that year, the band wrapped up it’s final tour in its hometown of Kingston, Ont. In May 2016, Downie revealed to the public that he had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. The statement says “Gord quietly passed away with his beloved children and family close by.” A statement posted to the official Twitter and Facebook accounts of The Tragically Hip announced this morning that frontman Gord Downie had died Tuesday evening.

And, of course, visiting during the week is FAR cheaper than on a weekend (especially Saturdays, which jump up to $128+ during the summer and $139 come fall). Mid-January to early March and late August through the end of September usually provide the best deals. Single-park admission prices during peak times begin at $117 pre-tax ($159 between Christmas and New Year’s), whereas if you visit during a “Value” window, rates stabilize at $109. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, Spring Break, basically all of summer-avoid them if you can. Holidays, while festive, are a disaster when it comes to crowds and cash. The parks rack up their entrance fees every year, so if you plan ahead, you can invest before those increases take effect. Notice how the exposure changes (longer and/or larger aperture)? That's because that bright light is no-longer part of what's being metered for the shot, or included in it.Well, I said for a long time that once I got a 5D III, I'd do some comparison shots. Then switch to APS-C mode, so the bright light is cropped out. If you want to test this to prove it to yourself, try this: take a shot with a lamp, the sun, or whatever, near the edge of the full frame image. The rest of the sensor is not guaranteed to be illuminated by the APS-C lens, so there's no way the camera can sample, downsample, or whatever, those edge pixels to add something to the APS-C crop. In APS-C mode, on an A7R5 or any other full frame camera, only the APS-C part (inner part) of the sensor is used. Those lenses are designed to illuminate an APS-C sensor which is half the size of a full frame sensor. Think about what APS-C mode is used for: it's used for lenses which project a smaller image circle. This is the first camera I've used where I see NO loss of quality, just a tighter cropped image.ĭid the other cameras where you tried it include an A7R4? If not, then you weren't getting 26MP in APS-C, and that would account for the difference you are seeing. I've not typically ever used it on other cameras as it does, in some small manner, take down the quality of the image. This is also how I feel about the APS-C mode. Normally other cameras attempting such a thing end up with degradation of the file to some degree. Yeah I watched it and noted during his trial that the use of the Medium Raw eliminated noise and any possible color shift. Some folks may even believe that person, depending on how ignorant they might be.įWIW, Dustin Abbott found a related (and quite stark) quality difference on the A7RV between M-raw and L-raw at high ISOs. And then some person whose never sewn a button comes along and tells me I have no idea what I'm doing, and then tells everyone he's more of an authority on the subject, than I. If I sewed ten buttons on ten shirts every day for ten years, I would probably be pretty good at sewing buttons. Ironic that you would type this on the internet, considering no one has ever heard of you and the fact that some folks find their images of cats and snapshots of their grandchildren far better than anything Ansel Adams ever did. Oddly enough, we're to believe that he has no idea what he's talking about with regard to "Anything" photography related, considering his resume, body of work, and experience in photography for so many years. The guy has had exhibits, won awards all over the place. He's had works in museums, has worked as a full time paid photographer for some 40+ years. Ken Rockwell has only been doing this for about 40+ years. So this is not talking about the APS-C mode that you mention in the thread title. I agree with the suggestion that this is talking about the the full frame, because claiming that the 15 megapixel image eliminates the Bayer matrix implies he's thinking it's coming from the 60 megapixel sensor, not the 26 megapixel APS-C portion. He is renowned for making unjustified assertions. Ken Rockwell is not an authority I'd trust on anything camera-related. I didn't see any sample images on which the conclusions was based. Sounds like a comparison of the various pixel output resolutions for the full frame and not using APS-C angle of view. Sounds like a good advert for the new Fuji 40mp APS-C cameras in that case. To me, that quote looks like it is referring to the adjustable Raw size of a Full Frame image. "Even if you don't need 60 MP, images shot at the 26 MP setting are sharper than images made with a native 26 MP camera, and images made at the 15 MP setting are much sharper than images from a native 15 MP camera because the lower settings of the A7R V eliminate Bayer interpolation, which cameras shot at their native resolution can't." As I tried to say before, but got slammed for saying it, the A7R5 is processing DIFFERENTLY than other cameras in this manner(sampling from the 61mp) and thereby produces a superior APC-C image result to all others including others in the Sony lineup. Here's a clip from a review from Ken Rockwell (he happens to be an electronic engineer and a long-standing camera fanatic like him or not) stating the what a why behind the superior APS-C image coming off the A7R5 and why it's better than any other camera in that mode including those that have the 24mp native rez sensors. In 2006, the DFA and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas started a five-year passport modernization project designed to issue new Philippine machine-readable passports (MRP). The act was implemented on January 1, 2018. Foreign Secretary Alan Cayetano signed the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of the new Philippine Passport Act on October 27, 2017. On August 2, 2017, Republic Act 10928 was approved by President Rodrigo Duterte, which extends the validity of passport from 5 years to 10 years. The Philippines used to be one of the few countries in the world that had not yet issue machine-readable regular passports although machine-readable passports for public officials have been issued since June 18, 2007. The new security-enhanced passport is a prerequisite to the issuance of new machine-readable passports which was first issued to the public on September 17, 2007. On May 1, 1995, green covers were instituted on regular passports for the first time, and barcodes were inserted in passports in 2004. Philippine passports are only issued to Filipino citizens, while travel documents (under Section 13) may be issued to citizens who have lost their passports overseas, as well as permanent residents who cannot obtain passports or travel documents from other countries. The Philippine Passport Act of 1996 governs the issuance of Philippine passports and travel documents. With the adoption of the 1987 constitution, the power of issuing passports was transferred from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the current Department of Foreign Affairs. Currently, it is printed in Filipino with English translations. Passports were ordered to be printed in Filipino for the first time under President Diosdado Macapagal, to be subsequently implemented under his successor, Ferdinand Marcos. Philippine passports were released after gaining independence from the United States in 1946. During the Spanish colonization of the Philippines, the Spaniards introduced a travel document to the Philippines called the chapa, or a writ of safety to go from one place to another, which the natives used from the 16th to 17th centuries. Prior to the Spaniards' arrival in the Philippine islands, indigenous peoples have been travelling freely within the islands and to neighboring Asian states to facilitate trade and commerce, primarily in the form of seafaring.
